Studio Policy

General Information

 

Fees are based on a 36 week season.

Payments are divided into monthly installments from September to June.

Monthly installments must be paid in Full by the First lesson of each month.  All Dance fees plus HST are due at the beginning of each month. Students whose fees are not paid at the beginning of each month may be refused admittance to class until accounts are paid in full. For your convenience we accept cash, cheque, direct debit, Visa and MasterCard. A service charge of $25.00 will be applied to all NSF cheques. Music Fees are paid on a monthly basis according to the number of weeks in the month. In order to secure your lesson time each month, fees for the next month will be due on the last lesson of the month. Music fees are HST Exempt.

 

Dance/Music Instruction and Tax Credits.

Dance and Music Instruction qualifies for the Fitness Tax credit. Parents are eligible to claim a non-refundable credit of up to $500 per calendar year for each child under the age of 16. Lessons and “equipment” like shoes, costumes and music books can be included in the $500.00 total. It is the responsibility of all parents to keep all invoices for tax purposes. The studio will not issue duplicate invoices. Service charge for year-end  statement preparation is $50.00 plus HST.

Teacher Conferences:

Should you need to discuss your child’s progress with their teacher please make an appointment with the studio office. Scheduling conflicts sometimes make it difficult for face-to-face meetings between teachers and parents.

We suggested that requests/concerns be initiated from parents by e-mail debralynnedance@sympatico.ca. E-mail is the most convenient way to get the majority of questions answered. All e-mails and requests will be forwarded to the specific teachers as necessary. For general studio questions please direct to the studio office.

Fee Discounts

Multi-Class --Four or more classes per student per week qualify the student for a 5% fee discount on each class.

Family Plan--Two or more siblings in the recreational program receive a 5% discount on each class.

Package Rates--Special discounts starting at 5 classes per week

Music Surcharge

 

In 2007, an additional royalty tariff was imposed on dance studios, aerobics studios, health clubs and any other business that uses pre-recorded music as part of their business. The tariff was imposed by the federal government and we are obliged to pay the fee to SOCAN. In order to cover the royalty “tax” the studio requires all students to pay a modest Music Surcharge. 

In addition to covering the SOCAN royalty tariff for regular classes the music surcharge also contributes to the cost of equipment upgrades and replacements, music acquisition, software and hardware updates for song editing.   The studio is also required to pay SOCAN royalties for both the pre-competition Cabaret Show and the Year-End Performances. The music surcharge a one-time non-refundable charge payable upon registration of all classes*.

Music Surcharge Fee Schedule (Plus HST)

1- 4 classes       $6.25/class                     8-10 classes       $4.75/class

5-7 classes        $5.25/class                     11  + classes     $4.25/class

 

*The music surcharge is waived for solo, duet and trio competition

classes and ballet exam classes.

 

Missed Classes

There are no discounts or refunds of fees for missed classes.  Students will have the opportunity to make up any missed classes where possible.  Arrangements for make up classes can be arranged with the administration staff.

 

Any classes cancelled by the studio for reasons such as inclement weather or teacher absence will be re-scheduled at an alternate day and/or time.  If the student quits before cancelled classes are made up or before the month end all fees are forfeited.

 

Classes Cancelled for Holidays and Inclement Weather

If weather or driving conditions are hazardous, classes will be cancelled and rescheduled. On any day in question, call the studio office at 905-238-6616 after

4:30 pm for information regarding cancellation or visit our website for up to date cancellations. Classes scheduled on Thanksgiving, Halloween, Good Friday and Easter will be re-scheduled as necessary.
