Recreational Programs Our recreational programs are designed for both beginner students and students who would like dance training but do not wish to dance competitively.
The Recreational Program begins with 3 and 4 year-olds in Pre-school ballet. Children in the Pre-school class will learn the fundamentals of dance and technique. The Pre-school class emphasizes musicality, balance, self-confidence, discipline, muscle development, creativity, social skills and most of all, fun. A qualified teacher with a minimum of two assistant teachers supervises the Pre-school ballet class. Preschoolers at the age of 4 are also eligible to enroll in tap and jazz classes
The Teaching Staff and the Artistic Director continually evaluate and re-evaluate all dancers at the Studio throughout the season to ensure each student is in the classes that are best suited to their abilities and goals.
We encourage all of our students to participate in the year-end performance so they can perform their routines in front of an audience to further their dance skills, confidence and self-esteem.

Competitive Program This program is specifically designed for the more serious dance students. All dancers are selected for competition by our Teaching Staff and approved by the Artistic Director. Competition classes are offered for solos, duets, trios and groups in all of our performing disciplines. The Studio participates in 3 to 4 competitions per season both locally and out of town. Prior to competing, we have a Cabaret Show for the competition dancers at Meadowvale Theatre. The show prepares our dancers for competition by allowing them to perform their numbers on stage in front of a live audience.
We also video each number so the students and teachers can fine-tune their performances prior to competitions. This year’s Cabaret Show is on Sunday March 4, 2012 at 1:00 pm. Tickets are $26.00 each plus HST and go on sale on February 6, 2012 Actual date of ticket sales is to be confirmed. **-Each competition student is required to purchase a minimum of 2 tickets for the Cabaret Show to cover the cost. Payment of 2 tickets will be due upon returning your competition consent form. Students will receive their 2 tickets prior to the show. Parents can purchase any additional tickets from the theatre box office. Seating for Cabaret will be general seating.
Competition Pre-requisites. All competition students are required to take a minimum of one Ballet class per week. Students doing a solo, duet or trio are required to take a minimum of two technical Ballet classes per week from Grade 5 and up. All competition students are required to take one Stretch and Technique class per week. Musical Theatre and Acro competition students must take a minimum of one Jazz class per week in addition to Ballet. Demi-Pointe (Ballet) competition students must take one regular Ballet class in addition to their competition class. Pointe competition students must take a minimum of two Pointe plus one Demi-Pointe classes per week.
We are especially proud of our competition students and the success of the program. Some of our exceptional dancers have gone on to professional careers in dance and in the performing arts.
Students selected to participate in the competition program are expected to: Rehearse regularly Be enthusiastic and positive Work hard in every class Be a team player and encourage their peers Attend all classes. (Maximum 4 absences allowed per season) Attend all competitions without exception. The rewards of participating in competition are great but do require serious and dedicated commitment by both the dance student and the parents. Obligations to school and other activities should be well thought-out before accepting the challenge of dancing competitively.

Company Classes The studio will be continuing with our company classes. Company classes can be large tap, jazz, lyrical, etc. lines involving 20 to 50 dancers or they can also be small groups consisting of dancers from different levels. The company class dance could also be numbers that include song and dance or a combination of dance styles in one performance. (ie; Tap, Jazz, and Acro). Company numbers gives our dancers the opportunity to do more than just dance but to also really perform in a Broadway Show style number. We are extremely proud of our company classes over the past 3 seasons for winning numerous overall awards. Good Job to our company teachers and students! The bottom line is the more we dance, the better we get! Students will be selected for the company routines during the months of September and October. This will give everybody an equal chance to be invited into the companies. Qualifying students will then be invited to perform in 1 to 4 company routines. Students must do a minimum of 2 company routines. Company classes are included in our package rates.
